Bark in the Park

Next up: Talbot County Humane Society's Bark in the Park at Idlewild Park in Easton, Maryland.

This is a great event that I had the pleasure of attending in 2010. Last year was the first time they held this event, and it went over so well that they are making it an annual thing! Yeay! I have a soft spot in my heart for Talbot Humane because I fell in love there with one of my four legged babies, who one snow storm and less than a week later happily found his forever home with me :)

They are a REALLY great organization, with an amazingly clean, well kept, and well run facility. They have a great staff and a great volunteer list as well. There is love pouring out of every window, door, and kennel of their building! (even if you don't find something to love there). Sorry! Enough raving, on to the event!

This is an all day, whole park activity! So you can stop by for a little while, or there is plenty to do to take up the better part of a whole day! There is plenty of parking so that is not something to worry about!

Bark in the Park starts the day with a walk thought historic downtown Easton, Maryland ($25) . Once back at the park, the dog show begins ($10). There are between five and ten categories. Be sure to enter to try to win that best in show ribbon! Throughout the day there will be agility, Frisbee, and dock dog demonstrations. The Easton police department will also there with their k-9 unit doing demonstrations. There is so much else to do, including: live music, food vendors, shopping, auctions. And a ton of other activities to keep you busy from morning until afternoon.

Also there will be a kids tent with activities to keep those little hands busy. The park has a playground if those two legged babies need to get some energy out. Another great activity that will be coming back to Bark in the Park this year will be horse drawn carriage rides around the perimeter of the park! So cool!

My favorite part last year was taking Layla through the agility course. There are agility trainers there to show you how its done, and give you pointers. We also love stopping at the Highland Creamery booth to buy some delicious handmade ice cream, and of course a frosty paws for the puppies!

And don't forget that if you are looking for a four legged friend to add to your family, this is a GREAT event to attend. Talbot Humane along with a few other rescue groups will be there strutting their stuff in the Adoptable Pets Parade!

So gather up the family (both two and four legged) and head out to Idlewild Park in Easton, Maryland on October 15th! This is such a fun event and there is a ton of stuff to do, it is worth the trip! We hope to see you there in a few weeks but if you sadly can't make it the event, you can donate HERE.

Women Supporting Women Walk

DECK YOURSELF AND YOUR DOG OUT IN PINK AND HEAD OVER TO WINTERPLACE PARK!

On Saturday October 8th, 2011 dog owners have an amazing opportunity to not only have a great time, but contribute to a great cause. Women Supporting Women will host its Walk for Awareness at Winterplace Park.

The money that the walk raises will go to benefit Women Supporting Women who works with women who are battling or have battled breast cancer.

This event is incredably dog friendly! A person costs $20, and your four legged friend is an extra $5. Two leggers recieve a t-shirt and a Texas Roadhouse lunch (yum!) and four leggers recieve a doggie goodie bag and a pink bandana (adorable!) to show their breast cancer awareness support!

The walk starts at 10am, but I would get there early to register and get settled in before the 3 mile walk starts.

You can also purchase "In honor" and "In memory" of signs for an additional $25.

Also keep in mind since this is a walk not a run, it is not only dog friendly but family friendly! So bring the whole bunch! Hope to see you there, wearing your pink, showing your support, and having a great time!

P.S. Click over to the Women Supporting Women Walk for Awareness page to see just how much fun people have with the pink theme!

VP 5k, FREE Entry

There are a TON of fun dog friendly events coming up on Delmarva in the next few weeks! So get those walking shoes and leashes ready because now that the cooler weather is rolling in, we all know our four legged friends are ready to hit the ground running!

First up is the VP Shoes 5k Challenge. The run will take place on Saturday October 1st, 2011. This is a free event, that takes you on a unique private 3.1 mile run through the woods/roads behind their store. I ran it last year and it was a really fun time. Keep in mind that because it is a free event, and that it is not taking  place at the city park (like most Salisbury based 5ks do) so it brings in a very large crowd.  During the race there is only one water table but you run by it once on the way out and once on the way back in, so you get 2 chances for a drink during your 3.1 miles.

I am not 100% sure that the run portion of this event is dog friendly, but I did see dogs at the event last year, I'm just not sure if they ran it or not. I would double check at check-in just to make sure. And stay towards the back of the pack at the start line so as not to get Fido run over because it is a  big group starting out!

After the race, they do an awards ceremony along with a few giveaways. You also receive a coupon to use within the store. There is also a post-race free barbecue with beer! Last year race shirts (a nice weight New Balance brand athletic long sleeve wicking type shirt) was not included but only cost $10, and since the race was free the shirt was definitely worth it! (Especially since it retails for around $30!)
