Petsmart Howl-o-ween!

Petsmart is having a halloween party this Saturday 3-5pm. I'm sure they will have some freebee goodie bags that they usually have at their events. Pets and people are of course welcome to dress up! Usually I'm a create my own costume kinda gal but when I was at petsmart last week and they were on sale for $7 I couldn't afford to make one for less than that! So our chow mix, who we already call a big purple dinosour thanks to her purple tounge and skin will offically look it to everyone else! She looks so silly! Petsmart will also be doing photos and probably contests. We went to a birthday party event and it was a blast and got some great free stuff so you can bet you'll see us at this one!

St. Michaels

So after a great afternoon at Bark in the Park in Easton we decide to head the 10 miles down the road to check out St. Michael's, Maryland... aka the location of the the filming of the movie Wedding Crashers.

We parked at a municipal lot at the end of the shops, right before the parking lot to the Maritime Museum. It was right next to the information desk that would be helpful if you were looking for a recommendation on something to eat or see. We walked back up the way to explore the shops. After going for a while we decided we wanted to walk a side street to check out the houses. When we got to the end of that street there was a park with a nature trail that lead parallel to the shops, so we took that back. It was a nice little trail and we had it all to our selves.

It was a really nice little town and the streets are very dog friendly with water bowls at almost every other store front, however I would never bring my dog inside any of them! Everything looked to nice and too expensive to risk those tails! But I wouldn't call it an all day destination, just a nice thing to do quickly if you're in the area.

You can check out events that they hold throughout the year at the St. Michael's website http://www.stmichaelsmd.org/index.htm

Bark in the Park Review

Bark in the park was very fun! There was tons to do. We didn't get to see the Easton police k-9 demo but we did see some of  the dog show, the agility demo, the band, and the dock dogs demo. It was a really bbig park and there were a ton of vendors and activities. It was really fun! There were a ton of dogs and people and everyone seemed to be having a great time, including us! :) I didn't take any pictures but promise it was a good time anyway!

Bark in the Park

So tomorrow is a big event in Easton, MD. Talbot Humane is doing a dog walk/show/event/fundraiser at Idlewood Park in Easton. The fun starts at 8:45am and is of coarse is dog friendly! There will be agility demonstrations and the Easton Police's k-9 dog demo as well. And it sounded like as long as there wasn't a demonstration going on you can take your dog on the agility equitment! Sounds so fun and I'm looking forward to it! So come out and support a great organization and have a great time hanging out with your dog before it gets to cold to do so!

Ocean City Boardwalk

The Ocean City boardwalk is not an event, but it should be! We took the pups to the boardwalk. We walked about 3 1/2 miles. They had a TOTAL blast! We walked on the boardwalk and the sand. We even took them down to the water for a quick dip. It was a great day for it! It was warm weather and there were a lot of other people doing the same thing. We said "hi" to a lot of other dogs. It was a free day other than the $2.50 we paid to park at the inlet. But we park there out of convieneve there is plenty of free parking other places during the off season. If you ask me October is the best month to go to Ocean City with dogs because after the long wait from April and its still warm out and the water hasn't cooled dog to much for the dogs, so its great for all! And most of the shops are closed so people are just mostly walking and sitting.
There was this great classic car parked at the inlet, and you could see the reflection of the the ferris wheel in it! Pretty cool right?! (And you can even see Dylan on the right hand side :))

Some Past Events

Okay so some past events to keep your eyes out for next year:

  • Oxford Day: in Oxford, Maryland. There is a parade and all sorts of events that are dog friendly. This past year Talbot Humane did a dog walk/show/contest to raise money and it was a total blast! Here is the link to watch http://oxfordday.org/
  • Boardwalking for Pets: A great event held by the Worcester County Humane Society at the Ocean City Board walk to raise money for their animals. Here is the link to watch http://www.boardwalkinforpets.com/
  • Cause for Paws: This is an event held (in April, I believe) by Wicomico Humane Society. It is a walk/hike to help their animals. This one usually comes with a t-shirt too! You can check their website for more details http://www.wicomicohumane.org/default.asp
  • VP 5k 2010: The Vernon Powell 5k is a great event if your dog is also your running partner. The start is a little scary so stay in the back of the pack and you'll be fine the rest of the way. It is in the woods and on quiet back roads. Its a really nice free event, and there is free food and beer after! It was the first weekend in October this year. They have a couple of events throughout the year so keep checking their website! http://vpshoes.com/
  • Women Supporting Women Walk: This is an event that takes place at Winterpalce park in Salisbury. Dogs are welcome! Proceeds go to help brest cancer awareness. It was October 9th this year. http://www.womensupportingwomen.org/
These are the ones I can think of off the top of my head! Stay tuned for events for this upcoming weekend and halloween!

HELLO DELMARVA!!!

Hello Delmarva! My name is Leanne and I am a dog lover! I have one dog that is officially mine, and a "nephew" dog that I consider mine.

Layla is a golden retriever/chow mix that we got from a rescue group in Cambridge called Wags and Wishes  Animal Rescue. There she was with her sister in the petsmart waiting to be adopted, only her future looked bleak. Her sister had 5 applications and our soon to be Layla had none :( But we still wanted all 10 weeks and 14 pound of that little mess! We were able to pick her up a week later. She was trouble right from the start and we loved every minute of it! Shes been with us for 4 and a half years. She will turn 5 on December 1 and we will have had her 5 years around Valentine's Day. She is all that my boyfriend and I could have hoped for in a dog! She's not even close to perfect but she is our kind of perfect.

Dylan is a black lab mix that took my sister for ever to find. He is from Talbot Humane Society in Easton. He is the dog that loves everyone, and everyone falls in love with him. He is a total mush and will eat anything! He is totally people and food oriented. He knows so many tricks and is constantly learning more. And he is the best cuddle partner you could ever ask for!

Both of our dogs are friendly when we are out but protective at home, so they are the best of both worlds. We love to go hiking, walking, running, swimming, to the beach, to the store, with them. And they love going places and doing things. Dylan NEVER wants to sit still. He thinks all of our time could be spent better unless we're moving around.

So that is why I have created this blog. To have a place where people can come and see what they can do this weekend that is fun, and that they can bring their dog!
